Don’t Close Your Eyes Moments with God, Vol. 16
In 2 Kings 6:8-23 the story is recounted of the king of Syria planning an attack against Israel. However, time and time again his plans were thwarted as the king of Israel avoided the area. A spy was in their midst, or so the king thought. Upon questioning the leaders of his army, the king of Syria found that not his man but the man of God, Elisha, was preventing the attacks on Israel from taking place. God was using Elisha to warn the king of Israel so he and his army would not be ambushed by the Syrians. Of course, this angered the king, so after finding out Elisha was in Dothan, he sent his fortified army to surround the city of Dothan in the quiet of the night.
Elisha’s servant rose early in the morning as any other day, but this was different than a regular day. The city was surrounded! His alarm was clear when he went to Elisha in 2 Kings 6:15 saying “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” Elisha calmly responded in verse 16 “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Elisha with concern took his servant’s fears to the Lord as he prayed, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” As his eyes were opened the young man saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
So often, we see what is going on around us. We see no way out of a situation, or we feel all is against us. We are alone in the battle. Maybe all it takes is a simple prayer of faith, “Open my eyes to see You.” Just because we can’t see God doesn’t mean He is not working on our behalf. He has promised numerous times in His Word that He will never leave us or forsake us. Paul reminds us of this in Romans 8:31. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” God never promised we would not face battles in this life. He did promise that He is for us. Nothing can separate us from Him as we are following His will and seeking to be holy before Him. Only sin can separate us from Him, but even in a battle with sin, He is working for us to bring us back to Him.
Are you afraid and alone because of the battle surrounding you? Open your eyes to see Him. The fight has already been won, because He is for you.
In His Love,
Susan
