Diligently Seeking Moments with God, Vol. 167
Though the journey would be challenging, it was not enough to just hear the reports. The wisdom and fame of King Solomon had steadily grown bringing honor to God. Though she wanted to see his kingdom for herself, questions were stirring in her mind. Would King Solomon have the answers? Gathering a large entourage of camels bearing gifts of spices, gold and precious stones, the Queen of Sheba set off for Jerusalem.
From the moment she arrived, the Queen received normal royal treatment. Somehow though, she felt a welcoming genuineness and love she had not felt in other places. Touring the city, she was impressed with the organization of the officials and their sharp clothing. During the meals, the delicacies filling the table and the excellent care by the King’s servants were superb.
Stepping through each room of the palace, the Queen of Sheba gazed at the splendor all around her. She had to remind herself to breathe. She knew beauty. She knew splendor. She came from a land filled with abundance. But this…this was far more than what was reported. The Queen knew she was seeing the blessing of God.
Digging deep into conversation, King Solomon patiently answered every question with such wisdom and grace. As the stirrings in her heart quieted, the Queen’s eyes were opened to truth.
“She exclaimed to the king, ‘Everything I heard in my country about your achievements and wisdom is true! I didn’t believe what was said until I arrived here and saw it with my own eyes. In fact, I had not heard the half of it! Your wisdom and prosperity are far beyond what I was told…Praise the Lord your God, who delights in you and has placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king so you can rule with justice and righteousness.’” (1 Kings 10:6-7, 9 NLT)
Seeking answers, the Queen of Sheba found God. Many generations later, Jesus would contrast the Queen of Sheba with the Pharisees and scribes.
“The queen of Sheba will also stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for she came from a distant land to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Now someone greater than Solomon is here—but you refuse to listen.” (Matthew 12:42 NLT)
Where the Queen of Sheba diligently sought the truth of God, the religious leaders of Jesus’ day had true wisdom and truth in Jesus but turned away from Him. The Queen of Sheba, a foreigner, demonstrated a greater spiritual hunger than the Jewish people, God’s chosen people. She came to Christ and found full satisfaction in Him.
Many, many generations later, we are blessed with even greater wisdom at our fingertips. We have the entire Word of God. What effort do we take to know God and seek His wisdom and truth? He has given us His very words, yet you cannot know God or His truth is you do not seek Him with your whole heart. Solomon reminds us to seek wisdom.
“Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy. Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.” (Proverbs 2:2-11 NLT)
As you diligently seek wisdom, you find God. Do not ignore the truth that is right before you. Dig into His Word today.
