The Clear Way Moments with God, Vol. 134

To me, there is nothing better than a hike through the woods. The path I hike to get to deeper woods at the Arboretum takes me down hundreds of stairs, along a narrow path, until I have to cross a stream. Rocks are scattered throughout the stream, and as I venture across, I have to choose my path carefully to find my way without slipping in.

Safely on the other side I tackle the trail. The paths are not easy with steep hills and winding trails, but I love the quiet. I love the time I share here with the Lord. In the early morning hours of walking, I often do not come across any living thing, except the small animals that scurry across my path.

As I tackled the trail, I also began to tackle some deep struggles I have been battling in my mind. With the stillness all around, I openly share my heart with the Lord, sometimes crying, sometimes begging for help and understanding, but also seeking direction, a desire to do God’s will, submission to His plan, and peace to flow through my heart. As I settle into God’s presence, He reminds me of His unending love for me, His goodness, and His grace for each hard moment. I am strengthened as I remember He is my rock, my refuge, and my guide. As I reach out my hand and heart for help, I find Him with a peace that passes all understanding.

Knowing He is holding me close, I begin the climb out of the woods, which starts with crossing back over the stream. Ready to again pick out secure rocks to step on, I notice a line of rocks marking my way across. While the path was not clear before, on my return after time with God, my way could not be clearer. I smiled as I stepped across knowing as I step out in faith, God would direct my steps. I may not understand the way forward, but God will determine my steps. I just need to put my hand in His and follow.

Thankful for God’s visible reminder of His guidance in my life, I am reminded of His promises in the Bible.

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” Proverbs 3:5-8

“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.” Psalm 37:23-24

Maybe you are facing your own deep struggles. As you slip into God’s presence, share your heart. Cast your cares on Him and step out in faith with a desire to follow His plan for you. As you trust God with all your heart, you will find He will determine your steps and will make the way clear to you.
