Seeing Isn’t Believing Moments with God, Vol. 143

In putting on the suit, Scott Calvin in The Santa Clause movie, accidentally takes over for the former Santa Claus. After a night of harrowing adventures delivering toys, Scott and his son, Charlie arrive at the North Pole. Upon settling in for the night, Scott sips the perfect cup of hot cocoa and shares his distress with the little elf, Judy. As he acknowledges he is watching a polar bear direct traffic and talking with an elf, he describes his struggle to Judy.

Scott explains, “I see it, but I don’t believe it.”

Judy, responds with a laugh, “You’re missing the point.”

“What’s the point?” Scott asks.

Judy explains, “Kids don’t have to see this place to know that it is real – they just know.” She continues “Seeing isn’t believing. Believing is seeing.”

Another evening, shepherds were also settling in for the night. As the flock quieted down, the resting men maintained an alertness, ready to handle any impending danger to their flock. What was once a respected occupation had become despised. Shepherds were hated. They were a lower class of people and lived a lonely life. Still, they had a tender side as they watched over their sheep. It was to these men special news would come.

The darkness deepened as the night wore on, but suddenly light shown in the darkness as an angel appeared to share God’s message.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:11-12)

Brilliant light filled the sky as the angel was joined by a host of angels singing glory to God for this amazing gift – the promised Messiah, the Savior of the world had come!

Shall we go? There was no question. They left with haste for Bethlehem to see the baby lying in the manger. The shepherds did not have to see to believe. They believed and went to see. Then on seeing, the shepherds shared with all what they had first believed. The promised Messiah had come to save the world. For the shepherds, seeing wasn’t believing. Believing led them to see.

Don’t miss the point. Believe God, even when you cannot see what He is doing.
