His Word Changes Our Word

Sunday mornings, I have the privilege of teaching the Pre-K class during the Adult Bible Fellowship hour. We have so many good conversations, we have our Bible story, and we sing. After a round of Father Abraham, we usually sing the well-known songs – Jesus Loves Me and The BIBLE. Simple truths not just for children but for adults as well. Part of The BIBLE talks about standing alone on the Word of God. David beautifully described God’s Word and its power in our lives in Psalm 19:7-13.

“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.”

The Bible is the beautiful story of God’s love for us. His love is interwoven through every verse as we read stories of His love and faithfulness, His judgement for sin, His mercy and grace, His holiness and His provision for our unholiness. His Word is pure and true, it gives us rules of conduct for right living, it offers patience and encouragement through all circumstances of life as we read the testimony of those who were before us. God’s Word is powerful and sharper than a two-edged sword. His Words can be relied on and a refuge to be counted on. The Word of God comes from God and draws us to Him. When one heeds God’s Word, they will become wise. Following God causes our hearts to rejoice regardless of the trials faced. God’s Word will never fail.

The last verse of the psalm is one I quote each morning as I start my day. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)

When you allow God’s Word to be the guide for your life, it will infiltrate your heart and your mind, so that you will acknowledge sin in your life and repent. You will seek Him and find your complete satisfaction in Him. You will be aware of those around you who need encouragement in their own walk or need to know God and the gift He has provided through His Son. Following God’s law leads you to the plea in verse 14 to make sure actions come from a heart guided by God’s truth.
