A Sign of His Promise Moments with God, Vol. 125
Heading home after an early morning dental appointment, I spent the drive talking with God about some concerns weighing on my heart. The sun shone brightly in the sky with some clouds floating across some of the blue. Looking up as I ascended a hill, I saw a portion of the most beautiful rainbow. Normally I look for rainbows when the sun peeks out after a storm, but these were not storm clouds. The unexpectedness and beauty of this rainbow caught me by surprise, and as I drove past a grouping of trees, I looked in the same patch of clouds, but the rainbow was gone. As I continued to drive, I was so touched by God’s reminder to me of His promises. God keeps His promises, always.
After the flood, God made a covenant with Noah, a covenant that extended to his descendants and all who followed that He would never again destroy the earth by flood. This covenant, called the Noahic Covenant was unlike any other. Normally a covenant was made between two people, however in the Noahic Covenant, mankind held no responsibility to keep the covenant. God alone did, and the covenant required for God to never again bring a flood that would destroy all mankind. The Noahic Covenant was also the only covenant providing a sign – a rainbow. The rainbow is a sign to man but a reminder to God of His promise.
“I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.” (Genesis 9:13-15)
While there are other covenants recorded in Scripture, we also find many other promises made to us by God. He loves us with a steadfast love; He will strengthen us and help us. God sent His Son to save us and is preparing a place for us. He will always be with us wherever we go. God has made many promises, and He keeps every single one of them.
Though the rainbow was meant as a sign to mankind and a reminder for God, that day seeing it in the soft puffy clouds, I was reminded of God’s promises to me. He will give me grace for each moment, along with His wisdom and insight as I work through the issues burdening my heart. He will guide me, surrounding me with His abundant love and care. He will not let me walk alone. Because I am assured God keeps His promises, I can rest and be at peace. All my worries are in His hands.
As you look at the difficulties you are facing, remember the beauty of a rainbow. God gave the rainbow as a sign to you and a reminder to Him of the promise He made, a promise He kept. There is never a promise God has not kept, and because of that rainbow, you can be assured God will keep all the promises He has made to you through His Word. He will never leave you or forsake you. Instead, God wants you to lay your cares at His feet. As you gaze at the beauty of an unexpected rainbow, look at the God’s beautiful promises to you in His Word. His promises were made; His promises are kept.
