The Star Moments with God, Vol. 144
Stepping out into the dark of night, I gaze up into the sky. A twinkle catches my eye, and focusing in, I see not just one star twinkling but many. I try to pick out the Big Dipper, the Little Dipper, and the North Star. The beauty of the night sky never escapes me. A quiet awe settles over me as enjoy the display.
From long ago men have studied the stars, not in the same way as me. While I admire their beauty, they would use movements of the stars and planets to track the changing seasons. Some also believed studying planetary movements could help them predict the future.
The wise men were also students of the stars. They knew of prophecies passed down through time that associated a special star heralding a coming King. And as an extraordinary light lit the sky, they began their journey to find the King. The wise men knew this was no ordinary star. As they travelled from the east, the star lit their way.
Following the star toward Jerusalem, the wise men began asking “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:2)
Although troubled by their quest, no one knew the King they were seeking, so the star continued to guide their way. Until one night…
“The star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:9-11)
The light of the star led them to their King. With joy, they fell down and worshipped the Savior. The wise men sought Jesus because they saw the light.
People are seeking the same Savior. They are looking for a light to guide their way to Him. Does the light of Jesus shine through you? Let them see His light.
